There's a minor issue with the .XPI contents, in that 0966 (and a prior one I also used, 0958) contain a Thumbs.db file in the \skin directory. This is a Windows dynamically generated file (created when the OS is configured with thumbnail caching enabled, often the default). It's normally a hidden system file, which Explorer may create or update when the directory is entered.

The file shouldn't be distributed as part of a product install, but generally doesn't do any harm (it's just cruft that accumulates from running Windows). However, because the files in the .XPI now all need to be signed for Firefox it presents a nuisance problem in the following case. If you've installed from the signed .XPI, and a user who can write to the \skin directory and has thumbnail caching enabled visits the directory, the Thumbs.db file is updated by Windows and its contents change. Then the extension signature is no longer valid due to the modification of the signed file and Firefox disables the extension. You then have to reinstall it to get the old Thumbs.db file back.

Anyway, if the Thumbs.db file were removed from \skin, it wouldn't cause this problem.

(edited subject to shorten it)
